- account details and preferences;
- information about products you view, purchase, return or otherwise interact with;
- order, transaction and payment-related information;
- communications you send to us, including customer-service and return enquiries;
- device, browser, IP address and technical information;
- information about how you use and navigate our website; and
- marketing preferences and information relating to communications we send to you.
Payment information is generally processed through Shopify and its payment-service providers. RDE does not need to receive or store your complete payment-card details in order to process a normal online card payment.
3. How we collect personal information
We may collect personal information:
- directly from you, for example when you place an order, create an account, contact us or subscribe to marketing;
- automatically, when you use our website, including through cookies and similar technologies;
- from Shopify and service providers that help us operate the store, process transactions, deliver orders or provide technical services; and
- from other third parties, where appropriate and lawful.
4. How and why we use your information
We use personal information for the following purposes.
Processing and fulfilling orders
We use your information to accept and process orders, take payment, arrange delivery, provide order updates, manage returns and refunds, and provide customer support.
Our lawful basis is primarily performance of a contract with you or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
Running and improving RDE
We may use information to operate the website, maintain security, understand how our store is used, improve products and services, prevent fraud and resolve technical or operational problems.
Depending on the activity, our lawful basis may be legitimate interests, legal obligation, or consent where required.
Our legitimate interests include operating and improving our business, protecting RDE and our customers, preventing fraud and understanding the effectiveness of our website and services.
Customer service
We use information you provide to respond to enquiries, handle complaints, provide product or order support and manage our relationship with you.
Our lawful basis may be performance of a contract, legitimate interests, or legal obligation, depending on the nature of the enquiry.
Legal and regulatory requirements
We may process personal information where necessary to comply with legal obligations, maintain appropriate business and tax records, respond to lawful requests, establish or defend legal claims, or protect our legal rights.
Our lawful basis is legal obligation or, where appropriate, legitimate interests.
Marketing
If you choose to receive marketing from RDE, we may use your contact information and marketing preferences to send relevant news, product information, offers or other RDE communications.
Where consent is required, we rely on consent. You can withdraw your consent or unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or by contacting us.
We may still send non-marketing communications relating to orders, accounts, returns, safety information or customer-service matters.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
RDE and Shopify use cookies and similar technologies to operate the store, keep it secure, remember preferences and, where permitted, understand use of the website and personalise services.
Some technologies are necessary for the website to function and do not require consent. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies or similar technologies, we use a cookie consent mechanism so that you can make your choice.
You can review or change your privacy choices using the privacy or cookie controls made available on the website.
We may introduce additional analytics or marketing technologies in the future. Where required, these will be subject to appropriate consent and this Privacy Policy will be updated where necessary.
6. Shopify
Our online store is powered by Shopify.
Shopify processes personal information to provide the ecommerce platform and related services used by RDE. Information you provide through the store may therefore be processed by Shopify and its service providers.
RDE currently uses Shopify Network Intelligence, which enables certain Shopify features involving data from interactions with our store and Shopify’s network. Shopify may act as an independent controller for some of this processing.
You can learn more about Shopify’s processing and privacy practices through Shopify’s own consumer privacy information and privacy portal.
7. Who we share personal information with
We may share personal information where necessary with organisations that help us operate RDE, including:
- Shopify;
- payment processors;
- delivery carriers and fulfilment providers;
- IT, hosting and technical-service providers;
- professional advisers such as accountants or legal advisers where required;
- fraud-prevention and security providers; and
- authorities or regulators where disclosure is legally required.
We only share information that is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
We may also disclose information in connection with the sale, restructuring or transfer of all or part of the business, subject to applicable data-protection requirements.
8. International transfers
Some service providers used to operate RDE may process personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards required by applicable data-protection law are in place. These may include adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.
Shopify’s infrastructure and service providers may process information in multiple countries. Shopify provides further information about its international data-processing arrangements in its privacy documentation.
9. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including to fulfil orders, provide support, maintain appropriate business and financial records, resolve disputes and comply with legal obligations.
Different categories of information may therefore be retained for different periods.
For example, records relating to orders and transactions may need to be retained for longer than routine customer-service correspondence because of accounting, tax and legal requirements.
When information is no longer required, we will delete or anonymise it where reasonably practicable and appropriate.
10. Security
We take reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect personal information.
However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
You are responsible for keeping any account credentials confidential and should contact us if you believe your account or personal information has been compromised.
11. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights including:
- the right to be informed about how your information is used;
- the right to access personal information we hold about you;
- the right to have inaccurate information corrected;
- the right to request deletion of information in certain circumstances;
- the right to restrict processing in certain circumstances;
- the right to object to certain processing;
- the right to data portability in certain circumstances; and
- the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
These rights are not absolute and may be subject to legal exceptions.
To exercise a right, contact hello@rde.bike. We may need to ask for information to verify your identity before completing a request.
12. Data-protection complaints
If you have a concern or complaint about how RDE has handled your personal information, please contact hello@rde.bike.
We will acknowledge a data-protection complaint within 30 days and will investigate it appropriately. We will provide you with an outcome when our investigation is complete, in accordance with applicable data-protection law.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection.
Further information is available at ico.org.uk.
13. Children's information
RDE is not intended specifically for children and we do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children through the normal operation of our store.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact us.
14. Third-party websites
Our website may contain links to websites operated by third parties.
RDE is not responsible for the privacy practices of websites we do not control. You should review the relevant privacy information when visiting another website.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technology, suppliers, legal requirements or data-processing practices.
When we make changes, we will update the date shown at the top of the policy and provide additional notice where required.
